  Working closely with our Spanish cask supplier, José y Miguel Martín, we have procured a very limited number of white and red Rioja casks. These casks come from a prestigious winery that has been producing exceptional Rioja wines for more than five generations. Wishing to remain anonymous, this esteemed producer is known for crafting some of the finest expressions of Spain’s most celebrated wine region.

  . Red Rioja wines are predominantly made from Tempranillo grapes, known for their dark berry aromas and warming spice notes. In contrast, White Rioja wines are produced primarily from Viura (Macabeo) grapes, which contribute a fresh, subtly fruity character with delicate floral nuances. The casks we have sourced were made from fine European white oak and held Rioja wine for two years before being emptied and transported to Annandale for whisky maturation.
  . These exclusive Rioja casks are available for maturation with our peated spirit, offering an exciting interplay of Spanish wine influence and Annandale’s signature smokiness. We anticipate a whisky that develops candied orange peel, almonds, cinnamon, and cloves, alongside the bright fruitiness of fresh Scottish raspberries, all underscored by smouldering peat smoke.

  The combination of Rioja’s vibrant fruit character, European oak complexity, and Annandale’s peated whisky promises a truly distinctive and sophisticated single malt. These casks will infuse layers of spice, fruit, and gentle oak, creating a harmonious balance between rich Spanish heritage and Scottish tradition.
