Sassicaia was born from the vision of a passionate wine lover at Tenuta San Guido, a winery on the coastal region of Tuscany. The first vintage was produced in 1968, but it was in 1985 that Sassicaia achieved legendary status, earning a perfect 100-point score from renowned critic Robert Parker. Now regarded as Italy’s most iconic wine, Sassicaia stands alongside the world’s greatest, rivaling even the most esteemed French Clarets.
Crafted from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, this extraordinary wine has earned its own exclusive classification—DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia. The wine carries intense blackcurrant, blackberry, and ripe cherry notes, balanced with herbal hints of rosemary, mint, and cedar. Aged for 24 months in French oak, it develops an intriguing spice profile of tobacco, black pepper, and cloves, all of which are infused into the casks, priming them for an exceptional whisky maturation.
Annandale offers the rare opportunity to mature either peated or unpeated spirit in Sassicaia casks, each creating a distinctive and luxurious whisky:
Peated Spirit: A bold evolution of rich dark fruits, earthy undertones, and peat smoke, balanced with vanilla, spice, and a luxurious, oily texture delivering a whisky of robust depth and character.
Unpeated Spirit: A refined and elegant whisky, featuring dark fruits, fresh orchard fruit, creamy vanilla, and warming spice, resulting in a smooth, expressive, and beautifully balanced dram.
Sassicaia casks provide an exceptional maturation experience, merging the prestigious heritage of Italian winemaking with Annandale’s signature whisky styles. The result is a whisky of unparalleled sophistication, defined by depth, richness, and extraordinary complexity.
