A highly prestigious yet secretive Château in Bommes, in the heart of the Barsac-Sauternes region, has granted us a handful of their exceptional casks. This renowned winery maintains centuries-old winemaking traditions while incorporating modern, sustainable practices to preserve their unique terroir and create some of the finest sweet wines in the world.
These French oak casks have matured their acclaimed Barsac-Sauternes wine continuously for around 15 years, allowing the oak staves to become deeply infused with the wine’s rich, sweet flavors. The Sauternes itself carries tasting notes of honey, apricot, citrus zest, and tropical fruits. Crafted by the esteemed cooperages of Demptos, Nadalie, and Radoux, these barrels are typically reserved for only the finest Sauternes wines, imparting additional layers of vanilla, almond, and hazelnut creaminess to the whisky.
Whisky matured in these Barsac-Sauternes barrels is expected to develop a beautifully lush and rich profile, featuring flavors of candied and tropical fruits, honeyed sweetness, and a refined, silky texture. The influence of these well-seasoned casks will bring a delicate balance of fruit, oak, and mellow spice, resulting in a whisky of exceptional elegance and depth.
“We were so impressed by the silky aromas and delicious notes of white and exotic fruits coming from these barrels.” – Annandale Cask Team. This rare cask selection offers a one-of-a-kind maturation experience, blending the luxurious sweetness of Barsac-Sauternes with Annandale’s refined whisky character to create a dram of unparalleled smoothness and complexity.
